DOCTORS ORDERSS

Alexander Cuff, Tom Peach (writer), Bradley Ward & Mathew Latham in “Doctor’s Orders”

In the near future heroic end of life medical care needs to be paid for by the families of the dying, not by the state. Two doctors can follow a routine procedure to euthanise an individual.  As this intervention is now so rare most surgeons and other life saving medical staff now spend their time either running these panels or spending time enhancing the rich and the well with increasingly obtuse cosmetic surgery.

Joe is dying, a young man with a high risk of not making it through a year his family have asked for him to be euthanised, For Doctors Smith and Armand this is a regular occurrence, part of their daily routine, supported with apps and a checklist of circumstances.
Over the course of the short play we explore the impact of these decisions – both on Joe and on the Doctors who help him to make them. Over the course of the short play we explore the impact of these decisions – both on Joe and on the Doctors who help him to make them.
