To register your interested to be one of our writers for 24 Hour Theatre Illawarra 2022, please complete the following form.

If you are selected, you will need to be available for the briefing 7pm on Friday 15th July and you will be asked to stay up at night and write an original short play and have it completed ready for the next morning.

Writers will be assigned a cast of actors to write for and will have a chance to meet them on the Friday night briefing. Writers will be asked to include stimulus topics which will also be allocated at the briefing. Writers will not know which actors they will be writing for until the briefing.

Plays will be assigned either a director or a team captain (one of the actors).

Plays should aim to run between 10 to 15 minutes.

While the main priority for actors and directors is to carry out the vision of the writer, some minor script changes should be allowed in order to ensure the play is learned and blocked in time for the scripts-down performance. Given the challenge the actors face, things don’t always go to plan!

There is no submission fee for writers, and your involvement will be on a voluntary basis. After the completion of 24 Hour Theatre writers hold full rights to their script, though must acknowledge that the play was written as part of Black Box Theatre’s 24 Hour Theatre 2022.

We will have two rounds of writer registrations, usually four to five writers are selected in Round 1. We will add more writers in our Round 2 submissions depending on the number of registered actors at that time.

BRIEFING – 7pm Friday 5th August
WRITING – 10:30pm (Fri) to 5am (Sat)
REHEARSALS – 9am to 5:30pm (Sat)
PERFORMANCE 7:30pm Saturday 6th August
