24 HOUR THEATRE ILLAWARRA 2017
WRITER REGISTRATIONS CLOSE SUNDAY 25/6/2017
To register your interested to be one of our writers for 24 Hour Theatre Illawarra 2017, please complete the following form.
If you are selected, you will need to be available for the briefing 7pm on Friday 1st September and you will be asked to stay up at night and write an original short play and have it completed ready for the next morning.
Writers will be assigned a cast of actors to write for and will have a chance to meet them on the Friday night briefing. Writers will be asked to include stimulus topics which will also be allocated at the briefing.
Plays should be no less than 8 minutes long and writers should try and keep it to 15 minutes maximum. Certain plays may be chosen to progress to Short+Sweet Sydney and Short+Sweet Illawarra in 2018. If your play is selected it will need to be reduced to ten minutes or less. If you agree to your play progressing beyond 24 Hour Theatre, you will be able to have your play redeveloped with the assistance of Black Box Theatre to ensure it is as strong as it can be.
While the main priority for actors and directors is to carry out the vision of the writer, some minor script changes should be allowed in order to ensure the play is learned and blocked in time for the scripts-down performance. Given the challenge the actors face, things don’t always go to plan!
Scripts that are not selected to progress automatically to Short+Sweet may still be submitted to the Illawarra festival as part of its normal script selection process.
There is no submission fee for writers, and your involvement will be on a voluntary basis.
